CBI Uncovers Twin NEET Scams: Tamil Nadu CM Stalin Renews Call to Scrap ‘Market-Driven’ Exam

A major storm has erupted in India’s educational and political landscape following the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) exposure of two significant scams tied to the NEET-UG examination, further intensifying Tamil Nadu’s longstanding opposition to the centralized medical entrance test.

Two NEET Scams, One Damning Reality

The CBI is currently probing:

  • A proxy impersonation scam from 2023 where an MBBS student, Vikash, allegedly wrote the NEET-UG exam in Delhi for Praveen Godara, a Jodhpur resident. This fraudulent act led to an illicit medical admission at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences, Noida.

  • A marks manipulation racket uncovered in 2025, where Dr. Sandeep Jawahar Shah, a doctor from Maharashtra, was arrested for falsifying NEET scores in exchange for ₹90 lakh per candidate. He worked with an accomplice pretending to be an NTA official, negotiating the deals from a hotel in Mumbai.

These shocking revelations, which surfaced through detailed investigations and sting operations, have once again eroded public confidence in the integrity of NEET.

Stalin Slams NEET as a “Moral Scandal”

Reacting swiftly, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin condemned NEET as a "moral scandal" on social media, stating:

“Yet another case that proves NEET isn’t about merit; it’s only about the market. That’s why we’re saying it loud and clear — #NEETisnotNEAT.”

Stalin alleged that the examination is corrupt from the question paper stage to post-exam result processing, and reiterated the DMK government’s stance that the nationalized exam system disadvantages Tamil Nadu’s students, who historically relied on Class 12 marks for medical admissions.

Political Firestorm: DMK vs AIADMK & BJP

Stalin didn’t stop with criticism of the system — he also took aim at the opposition:

“The AIADMK men, who have time to sit as showpieces in RSS-BJP conferences, do not have time to raise this with their bosses.”

By calling out the AIADMK’s alliance with the BJP, Stalin framed the NEET issue not just as an educational crisis, but a federal challenge, arguing that the central government is imposing a flawed one-size-fits-all system on states like Tamil Nadu.

What’s at Stake?

With the credibility of NEET further undermined by back-to-back scandals, Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK is doubling down on its demand to scrap the exam entirely and restore the state’s autonomy in determining medical college admissions.

This comes at a politically sensitive time, with the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections looming, and education emerging once again as a flashpoint in center-state relations.

Conclusion

As NEET finds itself at the center of yet another controversy, the growing consensus in Tamil Nadu — echoed in Stalin’s strong words — is clear: the examination, marred by fraud and inequality, no longer holds the moral authority it once claimed. With legal investigations intensifying and public trust plummeting, the battle over NEET is far from over — and it might just reshape the future of India’s medical education policy.
